Knowledge isn’t the answer
How many times have you been told “Flying
is safer than driving to the airport”? If
knowledge was the answer then there would be no
one on the planet who smoked. Everyone knows smoking
is dangerous, yet they do it anyway. Knowledge only
documents, seeing something will actually motivate
and move you forward to take action.
So, what is there to see?
It took me years to see that when my brother and
I sat next to each other on an airplane, he was
not afraid and I was. I could never see the answer
to the question why? On an airplane we ate the same
food and were breathing the same air. He’s
seen the same TV footage of planes and their misfortune
as I have, so why is he not afraid and I am? What
I finally saw was that the fear had everything to
do with me and nothing to do with the plane. I was
not only having a different conversation in my mind
than my brother was, but I actually created my conversation
from something in my past. I finally owned that
my fear had nothing to do with where I was and everything
to do with who I was being on that plane.
